Hall of Fame Leh

The Hall of Fame Leh is a unique war museum and memorial located just outside Leh city in Ladakh. Built by the Indian Army, it honors the soldiers who sacrificed their lives defending the nation, especially during Indo-Pakistan conflicts. The museum not only showcases military history but also presents Ladakh’s culture, biodiversity, and geography in a well-curated format.

  • The Hall of Fame museum is located on the Leh–Kargil Road, about 4 km from Leh Market.
  • It is also near Leh Airfield, making it easily accessible to travelers arriving by air.
  • Many itineraries include it as an early stop in the Leh area.

History & Purpose of Hall of Fame Leh

  • Constructed by the Indian Army in memory of soldiers who died during the Indo-Pak wars.
  • Expanded to include galleries on Ladakh’s culture, biodiversity, and mountain warfare.
  • Renovated/upgraded in recent years to improve displays, visitor facilities, and interpretive quality.

  • Upper Floor / OP Vijay Gallery: Weapons and ammunition used in the Kargil War, arms captured in conflict, and high-altitude gear.
  • Siachen / High-Altitude Gear Exhibit: Uniforms and tools used in glaciers, life of soldiers in extreme cold.
  • Ground Floor – War & Martyrs: Photographs, “Lest We Forget” wall, Operation Vijay documentary.
  • Local Culture & Biodiversity Gallery: Ladakhi lifestyle, flora, fauna, and geography.
  • Souvenir Shop & Photo Studio: Local artifacts, mementos, and dress-up photo opportunities in traditional Ladakhi attire.

One moving tribute is “The Last Post” frame — a letter from Captain Vijayant Thapar written before his martyrdom, displayed to highlight the human side of the sacrifice.

Hall of Fame Leh Timings & Light & Sound Show

  • Timings: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, then 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM
  • Light & Sound Show: Evening, around 8:00 PM to 8:45 PM
  • Entry Fee & Show Fee: Separate charges may apply for museum, show, and photography.
